Domi Gratz (born 1994, Vienna) studied fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (class of Gunter Damisch, Christian Schwarzwald) and graduated with honors in 2021. During her studies, Gratz began to combine elements of painting and drawing, which are expressed through reduced lines, individualized animal motifs, and tension-filled abstract surfaces. In earlier works, Gratz's “animal protagonists” can still be found in suggested scenarios that  open up narrative references and create spatial connections. In her most recent works, however, the artist increasingly reduces this environment. The motifs detach themselves from their narrative context and emerge as sole pictorial characters. Centred, isolated and formally condensed, they assert themselves in the pictorial space without any landscape or situational anchoring. Gratz's works have been shown at the Semperdepot (Academy of Fine Arts), Parallel Vienna, and various off-spaces such as Spektakel and BLUM, as well as in galleries (Galerie KRAS, Kleine Galerie).
